Step 1: Your Initial Consultation
Your journey begins with an initial consultation. This is an important opportunity to discuss your goals, concerns, and expectations for treatment.
During this appointment we will:
• Discuss the areas you would like to treat (commonly forehead lines, frown lines, or crow’s feet)
• Review your medical history to ensure treatment is safe for you
• Explain how botulinum toxin works and what results you can expect
• Answer any questions you may have
This consultation allows us to create a treatment plan tailored specifically to your face and your desired outcome.
Step 2: Meeting the Nurse Prescriber
In the UK, botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medication, which means it must be prescribed by a qualified medical professional such as a nurse prescriber, doctor, or dentist.
At this stage you will have a consultation with our nurse prescriber Katie. This MUST be in person and cannot legally be done remotely.
During this consultation the prescriber will:
• Confirm your medical suitability for treatment
• Discuss the areas to be treated
• Ensure you fully understand the procedure
• Approve and issue a personalised prescription for your treatment
This step ensures the treatment is carried out safely and in line with UK medical regulations.
Step 3: Waiting for Your Personalised Prescription
Once the nurse prescriber has approved your treatment, a personalised prescription is issued specifically for you.
This prescription is ordered through the pharmacy and linked directly to your treatment plan. Once it arrives at the clinic, your treatment appointment can go ahead.
This process ensures that the medication used is:
• Prescribed specifically for you
• Stored correctly
• Used safely and responsibly
Step 4: Your Treatment Appointment
Your treatment appointment is usually quick and straightforward, typically lasting around 15–30 minutes.
During the appointment:
- The treatment areas are assessed and marked if necessary.
- The skin is cleansed.
- Small injections are placed into the targeted muscles using a very fine needle.
Most clients describe the sensation as a small pinch or tiny scratch. Discomfort is minimal and no anaesthetic is usually required.
You will be given clear aftercare advice, which typically includes:
• Avoid rubbing the treated areas for several hours
• Remain upright for around 4 hours
• Avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day
• Avoid facials or massage in the treated area for 24 hours
You can usually return to normal daily activities immediately.
Step 5: The Results
Botulinum toxin does not work instantly. The medication gradually relaxes the targeted muscles.
You may begin to notice results within 3–5 days, with full results developing over 10–14 days.
The treated areas appear smoother and more relaxed, while still allowing natural facial expression.
Results typically last around 3–4 months, depending on individual factors.
Step 6: Your Review Appointment
A review appointment is usually scheduled around two weeks after treatment.
This is an important part of the process because it allows us to:
• Assess how the treatment has settled
• Ensure you are happy with your results
• Make small adjustments if needed
Sometimes a small top-up may be recommended to achieve the best possible result.
